Our Team

Matthew Diskin is a senior associate in our Toronto Litigation group. He assists clients in identifying the most effective strategy to achieve the best possible outcomes.

Matthew focuses his practice on commercial, intellectual property, entertainment litigation. Matthew regularly represents clients to investigate and prosecute or defend civil fraud matters, business torts, contractual disputes, copyright and trade-mark disputes, defamation, real estate disputes, estate litigation and professional liability litigation. He also frequently advises clients involved in international disputes in respect of matters of jurisdiction and the enforcement of foreign judgments and foreign letters of request.

Matthew is an experienced trial and motions advocate. He has appeared before all levels of Ontario Courts, the Federal Court and the Federal Court of Appeal. He has also appeared before various boards and administrative tribunals, such as the Copyright Board of Canada, the Ontario Highway Transport Board and the Ontario College of Pharmacists.

Matthew is active with Heenan Blaikie’s student committee, and serves as a student mentor. He regularly delivers seminars on practice management, motions advocacy and discovery practice to members of the firm. Having served for two years on the Queen's University Senate Information Technology Committee, Matthew developed a keen interest in technology and the law. Now, he is a regular contributor to lawsof.com, an e-business, privacy & technology law journal.

While attending law school, Matthew served as the Editor-in-Chief of the Queen's Law Journal. A publication with a well-established international readership, the QLJ is among Canada's most highly respected law journals. Upon graduating from Queen’s Law School, Matthew received the Osgoode Society Prize, awarded to the top-fifteen graduating law students in his class.

Matthew joined Heenan Blaikie in 2005.
