Greg McGinnis is a partner in the Toronto Labour and Employment Law group.

Greg has a varied practice encompassing all areas of labour and employment law, with considerable experience in labour-management negotiations, work stoppages, union certification, OLRB litigation, and construction industry matters. As a former officer in the Royal Canadian Armoured Corps (Reserve), Greg has personal experience managing people in stressful environments. He brings this experience to his client relationships, shepherding them through some of their most difficult business situations to a successful conclusion.

Specifically, Greg:

  • provides business advice to clients on conducting effective campaigns to remain union free
  • represents employers in litigation following an application for certification
  • acts as a spokesperson for employers during collective agreement negotiations
  • drafts employment contracts, employment policies and collective agreements
  • defends employers facing wrongful dismissal litigation or grievance arbitration
  • assists employers to develop and implement strategies to minimize the costs associated with termination and achieve compliance with human rights and employment standards obligations

As many of his clients are headquartered outside Canada, Greg has learned the art of translating the idiosyncrasies and pitfalls of the Canadian legal system to an American and foreign audience.

Greg is also prolific writer and speaker. He focuses on presenting labour and employment issues, law and regulations in an interesting and practical manner.

Greg is active in his community and is a strong supporter of excellence in education.  As a private citizen, Greg led the first and only successful administrative review of a school board closure decision on behalf of affected families in his Oakville neighbourhood.  He then consulted with the school board on the formulation and implementation of a transition plan after it came to a new decision.

Greg joined the firm after practising for almost 14 years at a well-known employers' boutique in Toronto, acting as that firm's co-managing partner for nearly four years.
