Peter M. Blaikie, Q.C.
 

Peter M. Blaikie co-founded Heenan Blaikie in 1973. In his role of managing partner of the firm until 1993, he was responsible for the growth of HB from a four-lawyer firm to a solid 150 lawyers.

Mr. Blaikie handles litigation matters, particularly in commercial and construction disputes. In his commercial practice, he focuses on the acquisition and sale of businesses and general business law.

In addition to his activities within the firm, from 1993 to 1998, Mr. Blaikie was president and CEO of Unican Security Systems (1993-1998), a public company that employs 3,000 people worldwide. The company grew significantly during his tenure. In the political arena, he was a candidate for the Progressive Conservative Party in 1979 and 1980 and then became president of the Party from 1981 to 1983. Mr. Blaikie was also chairman of Alliance Quebec from 1987 to 1989.

Mr. Blaikie has been a business columnist for The Gazette and Les Affaires in addition to being a radio and television commentator for Global Montreal, the CBC, Radio-Canada and others.

Mr. Blaikie has been recognized as one of Canada’s leading lawyers in the area of alternative dispute resolution in the 2010 edition of The Best Lawyers in Canada (Woodward/White). He has also been awarded Martindale-Hubbell’s highest rating (“AV”) for his skills and sense of ethics.
